Horsemanship Clinic with Brent Graef

July 23-25, 2010

Foundation Class -- 9:00am to noon each day for 3 days

Learn the basics of understanding your horse... how to earn his trust and respect, and how to offer softness, fairness, and clarity to your horse.

We are working to develop a good foundation of understanding for the horses and students.

This class is about half groundwork and half riding. It's great for young horses, folks with confidence issues, green riders, or serious students of horsemanship who have an appreciation for the value of getting the foundation more solid. Working from the ground is a great opportunity to learn to recognize your horse's expressions, see brace, and see correctness in his movements without the interference of a rider. Riding will be done at the walk and trot. We'll be working on softness and accuracy, smooth transitions, and recognizing and fixing up brace.

Colts are welcome to be in the groundwork portion of the class, but the horses who participate in the riding portion need to already be going under saddle.

Advancing Class -- 1:30pm to 4:30pm each day for 3 days

To participate in this class you must be comfortable at the walk, trot, and canter. Although there will be some groundwork, this class is mostly riding. We'll explore soft feel, softness through transitions, cadence, control of the horse's hindquarters and frontquarters. We'll work to recognizing and fixing up brace from the saddle. You'll learn to direct your horse's mind and take the concept of "feel" to a deeper level.

Terry Church (http://naturalsporthorse.com/train.html)
Various Dates
Terry Church is based in Petaluma, CA, and works with horses and riders at all levels of Dressage. She was "classically trained" through the FEI levels in the United States and Germany and competes regularly. However, a number of years ago she came to recognize that, in spite of the lofty ideals written throughout every dressage manual, tension continued (and continues) to be the predominant factor in the actual lives of most horses in training for competition in every discipline. With this awareness, synchronicity lead her to a meeting with the great master horseman Tom Dorrance with whom she spent the next seven years relearning everything she thought she had known about horses, and about herself.

Watch our web site or hers for 2005-06 dates for her clinic at Lakefield Farm
